The person
Anthony Michael Mwami who goes by the mononym Mwami or simply Tony calls himself “just a social media junkie”, but we know he is an internet celebrity. Amongst many things, he lives among us as a never dying meme. Of course he has a real life, but how is that better than being an internet meme?
The name
Mwami is International bae. Period. It’s all in the name. ‘Mwami’ in luganda means ‘husband’ so in essence, each time you say his name, you are basically saying, not just ‘you guy’, but ‘Hail thee, O beloved husband. Hail thee, bae of baes’ because Luganda, unlike German, is such a luxurious language inherent within it compliments and when necessary, clapbacks. Luganda is exxxtra like that.
A brand
Mwami has an online brand and presence grown through years of an active and consistent sharing of his smart, funny, charismatic and friendly self. Do not be fooled, though. Not a single bit of his delightful fooling around is permission to cross boundaries. This life form is a near academic art and art is to be appreciated and enjoyed, not for sending DMs for dates and free promotional mentions. Payments are also made in cash or cheques, and not exposure, because exposure is not legal tender.
A blog
He is the founder of Afrimillennial, an online blog that exists to tell stories of the Young African. Over the years, the content has evolved from a storytelling platform to a media service provider for young entrepreneurs and business owners of small and medium entreprises who want to tell the stories of their own businesses. Mwami is a writer and vlogger producing AfriMillennial related video content that can be found on YouTube.
A cat
Mwami is a cat lover. He lives in a Kingdom of servant leadership, where he is the servant to a sassy cat King named Loki, who leads him into all memes. Loki is bae. Loki is everything. Yes, even a model and social media influencer. That sassy cat will not accept payments in exposure, either.
We now interrupt this broadcast to share with you a very short story
A mood
If ‘life of the party’ were a person! If nuclear energy were not reminiscent of a bomb! Mwami’s infectious energy is not to die for, but rather to live for. His smile, though? That smile is to die for! Also, you can never predict when he will break into a dance or song, but hey, that is what it means to be a mood, no?
Features
Mwami’s boyish voice, crisp English and grand ambitions are also worth your ear-time! Oh, you want to hear from Mwami himself. You can catch him by clicking here, to listen to him on the HashTime With Nabuguzi Kiwanuka podcast as he speaks about social media, online marketing and his journey to becoming the King of memes.
Mwami is also on Twitter (NzeMwami), Instagram (nzemwami) and LinkedIn (NzeMwami). On YouTube and Pinterest, it (or he?) is AfriMillennial.
All photographs were sourced from Mwami’s social media pages.
Kind regards,
Anna Grace
