For as long as we give from a place of lack and not from a place of abundance, giving money will always be a burden. Also, for as long as we give away our money mindlessly never taking care of our own needs, we will always suffer needlessly.
So to know how to give your money is not the issue because most of us know how to give money. What most of us do not know, though, is who not to give and the courage to believe that we are still good people when we do not give. We are so often guilt-tripped and emotionally manipulated into giving even when we should not.
So, here are a few guidelines:
1. Anybody who feels entitled to your money does not deserve it.
2. Anybody who makes demands or requests from you, while hinting on how you are well-paid or how you have a good job or a good business, does not deserve your money.
3. Anybody who is not doing something, anything to stay afloat does not deserve your money.
4. Anybody who makes it a habit to ask money from you- basically displaying bad manners, does not deserve your money.
5. Any financial need that meeting would set you dangerously on the ledge of survival is not for you to meet.
6. You are not obliged to give money. It is the kind and responsible thing to do, like you already are doing it, but it is not an obligation.
Ultimately, life happens and anything might happen that could wipe away all your finances. Hey, that is life. Until then, do not create life and death situations for yourself where they do not exist.
In fact, I would prefer that this happens so that you can see how many people get as restless to give you money as you were restless to help them out.
I guarantee you, if you could foresee the way people will run away from you when you are completely down financially, you would be more eager to keep your money to yourself and learn how to multiply it.
It does not make you any less generous or selfish. Look at it this way; you are accumulating it and learning to multiply it so that in future you are able to give more, meet more needs and sustain this help even longer. Even better, you will be able to set others onto their own path of financial independence.
You are not selfish. You only need to learn two things:
1. How give in such a way that you do not hurt yourself.
2. How to multiply your money so that you can give as more and as much as you would like to give.
