HEAVEN? NO, THANKS

It is actually possible to be so heavenly minded that we are of no earthly good.

“May your Kingdom come”  and “May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” does not sound like God is very eager to have us in heaven. It sounds more like he wants heaven to come to earth.

In these times when we have a lot of work to do; hope to give, generations to educate, a world to feed, hearts and minds to heal (suicide and depression are at an all time high), people to empower and lift out of poverty, health care systems to develop and strengthen, technologies to harness for the good of society, stories to tell, plus so many more, I do not think that we should be in too much of a hurry to go to heaven. We should instead be building ourselves spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and financially; and equipping ourselves with the tools necessary to do all this work that needs to be done.

So what we should be asking ourselves is, what does the Kingdom of God look like and how does it operate? What is the will of God? Once we know that, then we can fully operate in this function.

Poverty, Injustice, Misinformation, Hopelessness, Powerlessness, Ignorance, Hunger, Wars, Ill-health are not the will of God. Wealth, Justice, Knowledge, Hope, Purpose, Power, Peace and Health are. We address these global issues through our life’s purpose.

Anybody who is not doing something about any of the so many things that are wrong with the world right now has no right to complain about anything wrong with it.

It is ungodly to be so heavenly minded that we make no contribution to the over all good of the earth. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 3:20).

These good works are our life’s purpose and our life’s purpose is entirely preordained. Great pointers to our life’s purpose include our individual interests, personalities, experiences and work; things that to us come so easily that we hardly feel is work.

God has not called any of us to solve all the problems in the world. He has only called us to operate in our gifts, talents and opportunities. He has called us to shine and excel in the areas of our giftings and talents, for which we have each been specially graced and equipped even before we were aware that we were gifted. It is in doing this that we address our part of global issues.

The idea of salvation is not so that we shall escape hell. It is also not a form of abstract solace to distract us from the reality of the world around is. If anything, it is a revelation of your true self to yourself in the context of the world around you with the view of your power over your seemingly insurmountable difficulty of your reality. 

The result of salvation, then, is that we shall live with meaning and purpose while on earth; modifying our environments through our work, talents, gifts, and serving one another. In effect, we collaborate with our creator to make a difference in the lives of others.

The reason our unemployment rate is high is because some people have not yet received the revelation of the business persons they are meant to be. The reason our media is trash is because some people have not developed the security within themselves that an unconditional, accepting relationship with God provides, for them to step out in confidence believing that they have a voice worth listening to. The reason some people hold back and are afraid to step out into an unknown future is because they have not obtained the confidence and discernment that a relationship with God offers, for them to believe that their choice to step out will not destroy them.

“Accepting Jesus Christ” is just the starting point to a life of operating in power and control over one’s environment. This is eternal life and it does not begin when we die. It begins while we are still alive and it is the source of our extraordinary confidence in navigating the world we live in with wisdom and insight.

Our lives are not meant to matter 100 years from now; they are meant to matter for the time within which we are appointed to live. It is not right to live with your life not mattering or counting for anything. It simply is not right, especially when solutions abound.
